Carpenter Bee Control in Charlotte, NC

Carpenter bees are large, black and yellow bees frequently seen spring hovering around the eaves of your house or the the underside of decks or porch rails in warm weather. They are often mistaken for bumble bees, but differ in that they have a black shiny tail section and a penchant for doing damage to structural wooden members on the exterior of your home. The carpenter bee is so-called because of its habit of excavating tunnels in wooden members on the exterior of your home with its strong jaws. The round half-inch diameter entrance holes are usually found on the underside of boards. A telltale trace of coarse sawdust is often found on the surface beneath the hole or on the ground below where they’re drilling. Wooden decks, overhangs and other exposed wood on your home are prime targets for this destructive pest. Painted and treated woods are less preferred by Carpenter Bees, but they are by no means immune to attack.

Unpainted or stained cedar, cypress and redwood shingles and siding are also attacked despite their pest-resistant reputations. Carpenter bees, like their distant relatives, the carpenter ants, differ from termites in that they do not consume the wood as food. They simply excavate damaging tunnels into the wooden members on the exterior of your home for nesting sites.

Carpenter Bees left untreated can cause thousands of dollars in damage to your home. Envirosafe Pest Control of Charlotte will safely and effectively eliminate all Carpenter Bees from causing further damage to your home.

Carpenter bees return to the same fascia, deck rail and eave every spring because they are going back to galleries drilled the year before. Treating the holes matters more than spraying the air, and timing the work to their emergence is what stops them re-boring the same board.
