Pest Control in West Charlotte, NC

Older Houses, Different Problems

West Charlotte covers a lot of pre-1960 housing. Ashley Park, Enderly Park, Wesley Heights, Thomasboro-Hoskins, and out toward Paw Creek and Coulwood on the northwest edge. These are not the same job as a subdivision built in 2015, and treating them the same way is why people end up on a quarterly plan that never quite fixes anything.

An older house has had sixty or eighty years to settle. Mortar joints have opened, pipe penetrations have loosened, crawl doors no longer sit flush, and soffits have gaps that were not there when the house was framed. Every one of those is a door.

Rodents Get In Where the House Has Moved

Mice need a gap the width of a pencil and rats need one about the width of a quarter. In an older west Charlotte home those gaps already exist, usually around the water line, the gas line, the dryer vent, the crawl door, and where the porch roof ties into the wall.

Trapping alone does not hold on a house like this. It empties the house and the same gap refills it a few months later. Every rodent job we run here includes finding the entry points and sealing them, plus cleaning up after, because droppings and nesting material left in a crawl space keep drawing more.

Mature Trees Mean Carpenter Ants and Carpenter Bees

The tree canopy over these neighborhoods is one of the best things about them and it is also why we get the calls we get. Limbs resting on a roof are a bridge. Shaded, slow-drying siding and fascia stay soft. Carpenter ants nest in wood that is already damp, so finding them usually means finding a leak first.

Carpenter bees go after the same old fascia, deck rails and porch ceilings every spring, returning to galleries drilled the year before. Treating the holes matters more than spraying the air, and the timing has to match their emergence.

Crawl Spaces Over Red Clay

Most of these houses sit on crawl spaces, and the ones that have not had drainage work hold water. A crawl space that stays damp gives eastern subterranean termites softened wood to work and gives carpenter ants somewhere to nest.

When we inspect we check the sill plate, band joist, piers and subfloor, sound anything that reads soft, and look at the vapor barrier and the ventilation. If moisture is the underlying problem we tell you that instead of treating around it four times a year.

Questions From West Charlotte Homeowners

I keep hearing something in the attic. Is that rats or squirrels?
Time of day is the first clue. Squirrels are daytime, rodents are usually after dark. Either way the fix is the same shape: find the entry, close it, then deal with what is inside.

My house is almost a hundred years old. Is it too late for termite protection?
No. Age is not the issue, conditions are. Plenty of very old houses here have never had termites because they stayed dry.

Do you do the sealing work or just the treatment?
We do the exclusion. Sealing entry points is part of the rodent job, not an upsell afterward.

Do you cover all of west Charlotte?
Yes, along with Steele Creek, Pineville and Huntersville. Further east or north in Mecklenburg we will tell you straight rather than book a window we cannot hold.
